Rhino 8 system requirements

Rhino 8 system requirements are modest for a professional CAD app, but the GPU matters: Rhino 8 runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 and on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), and needs a reasonably modern graphics card for smooth display. Below are the minimum and recommended specs for each platform, so you can check your machine before you download and start the free trial.

Windows requirements

Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit only. Rhino 8 does not run on Windows on ARM, and Windows 8.1 and older are unsupported.

Windows 8.1, Windows 7 and older, and any Windows-on-ARM device are not supported. A dedicated OpenGL 4.1-capable graphics card is strongly recommended over integrated graphics.

macOS requirements

Rhino 8 is a native build for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs with Metal display. macOS 11 Big Sur and older are unsupported.

Supported macOS versions run from 12.4 Monterey up to macOS 26 Tahoe. macOS 11 Big Sur and earlier are not supported. On Apple Silicon Macs the integrated GPU is used and performs well.

System requirements FAQ

Does Rhino run on Windows on ARM?: No. The Windows build is 64-bit Intel/AMD only. There is no Windows-on-ARM version of Rhino 8; on an ARM PC you would need x64 Windows and a compatible Intel/AMD processor.
Does Rhino 8 run on my Mac?: If your Mac runs macOS 12.4 Monterey or newer (up to macOS 26 Tahoe) it is supported, on both Apple Silicon and Intel. macOS 11 Big Sur and older are not supported.
How much RAM and VRAM do I need?: 4 GB of RAM is the minimum, but 8 GB or more is recommended for real work. For graphics, a card with 4 GB of VRAM or more is recommended for smooth display of larger models.
Does it need a dedicated GPU?: On Windows a dedicated OpenGL 4.1-capable graphics card is strongly recommended; integrated graphics may work but limit performance. On Apple Silicon Macs the built-in Metal GPU is used and is fine for most models. See the download page and Rhino 8 features for more.
