What a Rhino licence includes

Perpetual ownership

A one-time purchase — the licence for that version never expires and there is no subscription.

Windows & Mac

One licence runs Rhino 8 on both Windows 10/11 and macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel).

Support & service releases

Free service-release updates within the version, plus access to McNeel support and the forum.

Floating licence

Move the licence between machines, or share it across a team with the Cloud Zoo licence manager.

New vs. upgrade — which price applies?

If this is your first Rhino licence you pay the new-licence price. If you already own an eligible earlier version, you pay the lower upgrade price to move to Rhino 8.

  1. New licence: $995 commercial or $195 student — for anyone who does not yet own Rhino.
  2. Upgrade: $595 commercial or $95 student — for owners of a qualifying earlier version (typically the two previous releases, e.g. Rhino 6 or 7 upgrading to 8).
  3. Each licence you own upgrades one seat; you cannot upgrade one older licence into several new ones.
  4. Check your exact upgrade eligibility on the official store before you buy.

Not sure which version you have? See the download page for the current and archived releases, or read what's new in Rhino 8 before you upgrade.

Pricing FAQ

How much does Rhino cost?
A new commercial Rhino 8 licence is $995 in the US, or $595 to upgrade from an eligible earlier version. The educational licence is $195 new ($95 upgrade), and the 90-day evaluation is free. Prices are one-time and vary by region.
Is there a Rhino subscription?
No. Rhino uses perpetual, one-time licences — you buy a version and own it, with no monthly or yearly fee. Service releases within that version are free; a future major version is a separate upgrade purchase.
Who qualifies for student pricing?
Enrolled students, teachers, faculty and accredited schools qualify for the $195 educational licence. You verify your status at checkout. It is the full application and even allows commercial use.
How do upgrades work?
If you own a qualifying earlier Rhino version you pay the upgrade price — $595 commercial or $95 student — instead of the full new-licence price. Each licence upgrades one seat. Confirm eligibility on the official store. See also the download page and system requirements.
